Zone 1: Background Information

Zone 1 for NYBD is the North-East quarter of the County of North Yorkshire and this Zone accommodates the whole of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The larger centres are Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough, Filey, Pickering, Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley, Thirsk and Malton.

Helmsley is the only market town actually within the boundary of the National Park, Pickering boasts the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and Thirsk is home to the James Herriott museum. You can click on the image above to see a larger version of the whole county of which this Zone is a part.

Scarborough sees a fantastic production of Orpheus the Mariner on 14th & 15th February. This magnificent event will take in Scarborough's South Bay across both evenings, with the audience following the epic journey of Orpheus through some of the town's most iconic locations. It features a community cast of over 750 performers from across the region, giant puppets, live music and lantern processions, and is set to be a stunning spectacle on a gigantic scale.
